| Goodbye 2007. Hello 2008. |
[Dec. 29th, 2007|11:38 am] |
2007 is almost over and what a year it was for Belsapadore...
First up, we released our third album "Everyone C'mon Get Happy" in April 2007. Our album release show at Grounds For Change in Meadville, PA went amazingly well. I thank Dustin Miller, Gypsy Dave, and Kristel Bastian for their support and beautiful musical doings at this show.
Our entire catalogue is now avaliable to listen to online at the following link:
Listen to Belsapadore's catalogue @ Reverbnation FOR FREE!
Overall, Belsapadore played 7 shows this year. Quite a lot for a band that is a "studio project" ehh? We traveled to Edinboro PA, Meadville PA, Oil City PA, Bridgeton NJ, and Milville NJ and had an amazing time at each show. We hope to play even more next year.
Not only did we finish up our third album, but we also began recording a fourth. So far, we've got 8-10 tracks that are in the incubator. The new album will be titled "Monsters" and if all goes well, you will be hearing it sometime in 2008.
Without these folks, Belsapadore would've been much sadder in 2007:
Venangago-go Local Music Blog Mr. Dittman, I thank you for the coolest local music blog ever.
Gypsy Dave and The Stumpjumpers For the good musical talks we had at the China Buffet and all the cool music you've shared with me.
Dustin Miller Mostly flan, but some music.
Kristel Bastian/Casselberry For your willingness to put art above everything else.
That's all for now. See you in 2008.
Love, Belsapadore |

boy...
bringing this new album to life has been quite a journey. i've had so many ups and downs.
i'll be doing one of the last recording dates for the new belsapadore album, now titled "everyone c'mon get happy" on december 1-2 in Ocean City, NJ. the amazing Dustin Miller will help out belsapadore by providing some of his find drumming skills for the new tracks.
after that, i have a few vocals to complete and then we're onto the mixing stage.
i am working with a wonderful artist named Mindy Roth on the album package art. she's an amazing artist and i cannot wait to collaborate with her on this project. |

| state of the union |
[Apr. 13th, 2006|06:52 pm] |
i'm at a crossroads with music. i have all these songs to record from the past, but do i want to do that? i am not that person anymore. even though these songs are good, why revist them? just for the sake of having them on record? at the same time, i can't write anything new. what do i have to say? i'm not miserable anymore. the things that bug me sound whiney when i put them into song. why should i be discussing what bugs me in a song? shouldn't i just keep it inside, think about it and deal with it? the world doesn't have to hear about things. and telling stories through songs? i did that on "a more colorful..." why do it again?
i have no clue where to take this project. i have no inspiration, i have nothing to say anymore. i locked all my guitars and anything that i can play or record on away. i plan on not taking them out at all for a very long time.
i don't want to keep on just for the sake of keeping on. that's the good thing about not doing music for a living: i can stop when i want to and i don't have to worry about pleasing the record company. i know i may have just reached my artistic limit. maybe that there is nothing left in me musically. maybe i used it all up and what you hear is what you hear. "the juniper tree" is the newest song of mine that i've recorded and that was a year ago. that song was about dying and leaving behind everything. it leaves some hope in it saying that "yes i may come back someday if you bury me under the juniper tree" but who knows if it works. i just may be dead and that's all. maybe that song has more meaning these days than it ever did. maybe this is the end.
with all of this said, i am left with nothing other to say than that as of today, thursday april 13, 2006, belsapadore will be placed on permenant hiatus. how long will this last? maybe just a few months, maybe a year, or maybe this is the end. i can't tell.
thanks for listening. you'll hear from me someday.

| belsapadore in the book The Story of Us Humans, From Atoms to Today's Civilization by Robert Dalling |
[Jan. 26th, 2006|07:51 pm] |
belsapadore, zomo, and the music of justin hoenke in general will be discussed in a small section of the book The Story of Us Humans, From Atoms to Today's Civilization by Robert Dalling Ph.D.
below, you can read the section of the book that talks about this music.
also, please check out this website. it is the home of the book, and it will give you links to places where you can purchase the book, or read more on the creation of it.
http://www.ushumans.net
note to all those who read this: i highly recommend this book to all who come across it. i have a copy of the first edition myself and find it to be quite the interesting read (i have come nowhere close to finishing it, but the ideas and examples in the book are just stunning.) it is written in such a great manner that anyone can pick it up and understand how humans, civilization, and all of this has come together. it is necessary for all humans who want to undestand the world around them.
Thanks for talking with me about creating music. Your description is just what is needed in my book's quotation of Feynman's comparison of creativity in artists and scientists. With your permission, I would place the following paragraph in Chapter 1, just after Feynman and just before the section "Scientists measure everything from motion to society, even love."
Here is the proposed paragraph:
My friend Justin Hoenke creates music, see www.purevolume.com/belsapadore. When I asked him how he creates something out of nothing he answered that he sometimes wonders if he should more often focus on things that do exist instead of living as he does in a pseudo dream world. He said that time and time again he has thought about how and why he creates but the more he searched the further he was from the reason he started in the first place. He started making music because he loved to hear music. Since he had always been a creative kid, music and his creativity just fell together. Justin likes how music brings a smile to a persons face as they hear it. He likes how it makes the hairs on his arm stand up when listening to something he really enjoys and wants to do that for everyone with his own music. He explains that a lot of the first songs he wrote were based on positive and negative experiences he had had. Since he wasn't an open person and held things in, music was a way of saying things. During his Zomo days, see (hear) www.purevolume.com/zomo, he let all that he wanted to say stay inside until he wrote those angry songs. Then, Belsapadore started off as me trying to find my footing in the world and slowly it's becoming me saying what I want to say when I want to say it and not letting it boil up inside of me. I guess it's all some kind of journey that I'll understand someday. When I asked about creative techniques, Justin said that each artist has their own method in which they feel most comfortable working, but the goal is really never to feel comfortable in the way you create or you might get into some kind of routine that just leads to the same thing over and over again. Justin says that through a several-year period he relied on the pure emotion of a moment to craft a song; he wrote a few hundred songs this way. He said that he would wait around for or even create incredibly intense, emotional moments and then capture them in song. But after awhile, it got to be a real drag on his personal life because, as he lived for these moments he was in turn killing himself for art. He realized that he wasn't happy with the newer songs because most of them were created out of habit. He then began working in isolation on new songs that didn't rely on these moments of intense experience. He says that The only thing that could then inspire me would be me.
The book printing company just now phoned me to say that we have to begin the publishing process from scratch because my book has changed by more than 30[R>from what they printed in January 2004. This means that I can take a couple more weeks before sending them the final version of my text.
Thanks Justin, Robert
ENJOY! i will keep you posted on the printing of this second edition. |

| belsapadore: upcoming recording sessions |
[Oct. 13th, 2005|11:06 pm] |
the next recording sessions for belsapadore will be held in the next two weeks for a planned single, due out before the end of 2005. it will be composed of two songs/pieces.
Side A: the old vivisector Side B: a piece here, a piece there
"the old vivisector" is a "cover" of a Dada poem of the same name. I am taking the poem and dividing it up into three movements. The poem will be spoken work, with music backing the reading of the poem.
"a piece here, a piece there" is a experimental piece that will include various "sections" of music i have written and recorded over the past 2 years. they will be patched together at random to create a unique piece of music that flows from section to section. one could see this as the more "avant-garde" version of "a long time ago..." from the "a more colorful or easier somewhere else" album.
and finally...i use too many of these ""!!!

| new belsapadore EP finished, other news, etc... |
[Jul. 20th, 2005|09:30 am] |
so, after about 4 months of plotting, scheming, and recording, the new belsapadore EP "a more colorful or easier somewhere else" has been recording. the project now moves into the final stages of production, where the artwork will be finalized and such. not to give out too much concerning the artwork, as i'd like for it to be a suprise, but here's a hint...think "children's book".
the tracklist is as follows...
1. a long time ago the same thing happened but at the point it was merely natural evolution.
2. the modern times
3. sherlock holmes
4. you are a light
5. once upon a time
6. the juniper tree
i will be sending out/posting order forms for when the EP is finished. this will also include options to order the other belsapadore albums as well.
the future of belsapadore includes the following..
1) possible live shows! we're not particulary good at setting up our own shows, so if you'd like to help us in that area we would love that!
2) right now, there are no plans to record any new material. we've got quite a backlog now and the goal is to put that out somehow someway, etc etc etc.
in other justin related musical news, it looks like zomo will be putting together a new album soon. plans are being made as to how to put the whole shabang together. dustin and i wrote a batch of interesting songs over our holiday in NJ and NYC. the plan now is to record some demos of those songs with aaron davis and work with dustin via mail.
well, you have a good day now, ya hear?

| "a more colorful or easier somewhere else" and other news |
[Jun. 22nd, 2005|10:30 am] |
the new belsapadore EP "a more colorful or easier somewhere else" is now one song away from being finished. originally planned as a full length LP, it was recently scaled down to an EP because according to justin "ummm it just works better that way." the tracklist will be as follows...
a long long time ago the modern times sherlock holmes you are a light once upon a time the juniper tree
the artwork for the album is currently in the first stage of development. expect something along the lines of a childrens book to come with the EP.
we're also in the process of uploading our complete catalog to the internet for everyone to download freely. you can find all that at the following website...
http://www.rockerie.com/thescene/bands/225
enjoy, and please tell a friend.
not much else to report from the belsapadore crew, so have a good day and we hope to see you all soon. |

| results from the 5-04-05 show |
[May. 5th, 2005|10:53 pm] |
setlist ******* once upon a time sherlock holmes checkmate baby end of the world harvey wallbanger get it on down vultures the sun and the moon tomorrow
this show only featured me, as aaron dobler had previous engagements and such. the whole thing went pretty well. i guess i was a bit nervous through the whole thing, but all in all i had fun. there were some really shining moments like on "the sun and the moon". i really felt confident on that one...
"baby" is a rivers cuomo song, and "tomorrow" is from the musical annie. the song "checkmate" was written during the "egg" recording sessions but it didn't really fit on the album (at all). maybe someday i'll record it. |
